Great Edstone is a hill village on an oval mound of boulder clay left by glaciers in about 30,000 BC. Rising 30m above the surrounding land, it overlooks the Vale of Keldholme to the north, the village of Marton to the east and the immense tract of water meadows, known as ings, to the south and west. The village has a population of around 200 with several working farms, the church of St Michael and All Angels, and a Village Room (the old schoolhouse), which is used for village meetings.
